I had the pleasure to meet Yacine Aït Kaci and Naziha Mestaoui twice. The first time we met at the Web Bar, in Paris, in a winter afternoon of 2002: we recorded a two-hours-long dense and stimulating talk that I hardly could transcribe later, because of the noise inside the bar. The second occasion was in august 2005, on internet, using a messenger program. At Paris, we were face-to-face in a physic space, which was one of the few places in the city that considered the relationship between concrete and virtual instances. At the second occasion, we communicated on this territory that Electronic Shadow calls 'the 25th time zone'.

The Nomads.usp's interest for presenting Electronic Shadow’s work and ideas to brazilian architects, designers and students is based on the fact that they constitute a still unusual design studio nowadays. They have an absolutely interdisciplinary approach, due to their huge and diverse formation, with also diverse both partners and issues. They contribute to a redefinition of many aspects of architecture’s field, reinforcing its relationships with art, literature, sciences and informatics.

Furthermore, they explore possibilities of using the so-called information and communication technologies in their works, extending the reach of the architects and designers actions. They do it in a stimulating and provocative way, but also with the calm and the clearness of those who walk with pleasure and care, in a trajectory authenticated by clients as the Louvre Museum, the French Ministry of Culture and the Italian furniture maker Cassina.

Their understanding that life evolves more and more within hybrid spaces, composed by concrete and virtual instances, exceeds the limits of their professional discourse, weaving the fabric were their daily life itself is lodged. Yacine and Naziha really live in this hybrid space and visualize from there a world without boundaries, which can be organized around shifting centralities. At that privileged place, with the same sympathy and generosity that they showed in our two meetings, Electronic Shadow granted an interview to Nomads crew.
